Award-winning performance artiste and author, J. Nichole Noël was born in Trinidad. Her parents along with her four sisters migrated to Canada in 1970. On her first day of school she met flaming red-haired Darlene, whose parents were from Germany and an unforgettable friendship began.
What started out as a high school poetry assignment, J. Nichole’s art of putting heart-felt sentiments to paper and called it ‘poetry’ took root. After spending her teenage age years writing about the essence and trials of puppy love, her poetry matured. It blossomed and diversified itself into reality, sensuality, ethnicity and consciousness while also addressing social issues and current affairs.
J. Nichole graduated from Humber College with a Business Marketing Diploma, followed by a string of various diplomas and accomplishments. Throughout professional career, writing poetry and poetic stories remained a constant passion.
As a much talked about and recognized performance spoken-word artiste, she became known for being able to merge words, spoken through her distinctive alluring voice, accompanied at times with music and poignantly garnished with theatrics.
One day as she sat to write a performance poem, out of her vivid imagination, with pen to paper, Nephetiti and Sweetie were born. Although the characters in the books are of African and Indian descent, J. Nichole emphasizes that true friendship is not limited to creed or race. She also states that true friendship and can only be found within the mixed-matched vibrant colours of one’s heart.
J. Nichole and Darlene are still best of friends ... today!
